The debut of Rapinoe's FIFA Women's World Cup debut took place in 2011. In 2015 and 2019, her contribution to the U.S. Women's World Cup winning team win consecutive titles. She was named cocaptain. Rapinoe was the one who scored two goals for the United States in the 4-3 victory against Australia at the Olympics bronze medal match at Tokyo in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic which Japan was forced to postpone until 2021 as a result from this epidemic, also won the gold in Tokyo in 2016.
